Real Skateboarders was founded in 1991 by Tommy Guerrero and Jim Thiebaud in San Francisco, California. Having both been professional skateboarders themselves, riding together for Powell Peralta, they took their knowledge and vision to create a new style of skate company. Skateboarding was changing fast in 1980s, with street skateboarding exploding in popularity, they teamed up with Fausto Vitello, who was behind various other San Francisco based skate companies such as Thrasher Magazine, Venture Trucks and Independent Trucks.
Through the years, Real Skateboards has nurtured many professional skateboarders with key names such as Keith Hufnagel, who went on to form HUF and Dennis Busenitz, who experienced success with the best selling and long-running signature skate shoe, the Busenitz Pro with adidas Skateboarding.
The Real Skateboards team today consists of Jake Donnelly, Ishod Wair, Keith Hufnagel, Justin Brock, Dennis Busenitz, Peter Ramondetta, Chima Ferguson, Max Schaaf, Davis Torgerson, Robbie Brockel, Kyle Walker, Jack Olson and Zion Wright.
