We visited the Aries studio in Hackney, London to capture the community behind the brand and ask the team what it all means.

All portraits by photographer, and Aries family member, Aidan Cushway.

Kasper Kapica, Digital Manager

What does Aries mean to you?

Kind of everything. It’s family. Even people who no longer work here are still part of it. They’re some of my closest friends. So it’s like my work, and my personal life.

How does the Aries family function?

I was stuck when I met Sofia and asked her for an internship, but she gave me a job right off the bat. It’s trust. When I think about what we achieve it always looks like we have a way bigger team.

Does everyone have a say?

We have so much freedom for a young team, especially with ideas. Sometimes I think Aries is just this really well orchestrated mistake.

How important is community?

Ideas are constantly bouncing around and being regurgitated and turned into different things. I don't think there's ever anything that's just one person’s concept.

What has working at Aries taught you?

I’ve learnt how important it is to create good relationships. If you’re nice to everyone they’ll want to work with you, without even having to ask.

Tom Passamonti, Accessories Designer

What does Aries mean to you?

You can't label Aries. You can see all the references from street and punk coming together, but for a new generation. It’s about freedom, and fashion that doesn’t take itself too seriously. Aries has a sense of humour.

How does the Aries family function?

Everyone's opinion counts. When you get stuck or too close to something you can always go to another team for a different perspective. That helps a lot.

How important is community?

The office feels like a small family, but then when you see people wearing it outside you understand that they get our way of expressing what we’re trying to do. So it’s a big family too.

Aries Behind the Scenes - Tom quote

Did you all meet through work?

I did, and I was quite lucky to be honest. I must have been in the right place at the right time when I applied for my internship and I just stayed on after that.

What do you love about your job?

Designing something, getting it produced, and then seeing it worn by people. Knowing that someone wants to buy it means that they must appreciate your work.

Priscilla Gastaldi, Production Assistant

What does Aries mean to you?

It reminds you to have fun on tough days because the world can be so serious right now. For me it’s become a safe space - it's a really positive environment.

How does the Aries family function?

Like a proper family, especially for me as I don’t have family here. I think that when you have a really productive environment it’s because you have good leaders.

How important is community?

It's good when you feel like you belong to something, and I think I’ve found my place here somehow. Sharing is really important.

What has working at Aries taught you?

We’re all human and sometimes you make mistakes, but you just have to get stuck in and find a solution. Even if things seem impossible, we always make it happen.

What do you love about your job?

I think the most beautiful thing is the satisfaction of seeing the whole collection finished because all of us put so much work and effort into it.

Doc Dadsen, Ecommerce Manager

What does Aries mean to you?

It’s more like a community to me, and I think the customers really feel that too. It's bigger than just the Aries family.

Does everyone have a say?

Even if it's not something that you work on directly you can still have an input. The designers always come to us with ideas, or stuff to try on, and ask us what we think. We all support each other.

Aries Behind the Scenes -Doc quote

Did you all meet through work?

I did. A lot of people come through word of mouth, but everyone is welcoming. We spend every day together. I see them more than my actual family!

What has working at Aries taught you?

How a brand works, and how to make an idea happen. Like, how the departments come together. My thing is logistics, so I love seeing more of the manufacturing side.

What do you love about your job?

Seeing a new collection. When we get the first delivery of boxes in everyone gathers round and we open them together. That’s always exciting.

Madison Hahn, Marketing Manager

What does Aries mean to you?

Aries means family to me. I don’t have family in the UK so the relationships I’ve built at work are really important, especially with people like Nicki the CEO, she brought me to Aries with her.

Does everyone have a say?

Yes, definitiely. Aries is a community so even though we all have particular roles, we all feed into ideas and solutions in other departments! We definitely take inspiration from each other, no matter what department we work in.

Aries Behind the Scenes - Madison quote

How important is community?

Everyone relies on each other. We’re always coming together to see how we can work differently. It's not a dictatorship, we work things out as a group.

What do you love about your job?

Learning about the bigger picture. Previously I had roles that were very linear but now I’m looking at everything from marketing and logistics to PR and finance.

James McCarthy, Head of Digital

What does Aries mean to you?

I fell in love with the aesthetic, and it's still a mystery to me. There are lots of different references from different places and I love how you can never pin it down.

How does the Aries family function?

The whole creative process is organised but sort of freestyle as well. Not that we're making it up as we go along.

Who makes the tea?

I can't remember the last time someone made tea, I just go and buy coffee. There used to be a lot more tea making, but now we seem a lot busier so there aren’t as many rounds of tea going on. Plus, the kitchen is a total mess most of the time.

How important is community?

I love it. It can be a little bit competitive here at times but that's great. Like when we're working on a project and something comes in from left field, or someone has an idea and we go with it and it works.

What has working at Aries taught you?

To be flexible, because we've got so many projects going at exactly the same time and it can be very chaotic. So picking up things outside what I would normally do, and helping out here, there, and everywhere.

Marvin Javier, General Manager

What does Aries mean to you?

Aries is a creative family, a very productive creative family.

Does everyone have a say?

I think everybody has a purpose and is open to helping out. Even though we have titles and roles everyone contributes in different ways. That's the beauty of how this company works. There's no hierarchy in that way.

How important is community?

It’s what makes it Aries. The way we communicate. The way we work together. The openness of opinions. How we want everybody to contribute. Community is the lifeblood of any brand.

What do you love about your job?

The organised madness. How we work together is quite rare I think and not something many people are lucky enough to experience in the workplace.
