Vans presents an all-new footwear and apparel collection designed and inspired by Anthony Van Engelen. The Vans AVE Pro collection features the AVE Pro, AVE’s first signature cupsole silhouette for more than a decade.
“With the AVE Pro - my first cupsole in 15 years - we achieved a completely transformed upper with Vans’ Rapidweld technology and improved the grip and boardfeel in the sole overall,” Van Engelen said. “This shoe for me was a natural progression toward making a durable, technical skate shoe. Not only does it deliver a lighter, longer-lasting shoe for skating—but it’s an important step in innovation for Vans to pursue as the leader in skate shoes."
Anthony was involved throughout the whole design process covering research, design and wear testing to ensure the shoe was worthy of carrying his name. The AVE Pro comes in premium suede with mesh panelling, the shoe features Duracap reinforced underlays in high wear areas to improve durability, RapidWeld no-sew technology means the shoe has heat-fused upper panels which creates a more durable bond, with greater flexibility and is lighter than conventional stitching.
There’s LuxLiner technology included in the shoe as well, this means that the tongue and internal lining are integrated for a more snug fit, a moulded heel counter gives additional structure to the shoe and helps lock your heel in. The major feature of the shoe is Vans’ all-new UltimateWaffle outsole, this makes use of an internal shank to maintain flex in the forefoot, impact cushioning is provided by a full-length Ultracush midsole. The Vans AVE Pro is a shoe that has that familiar Vans feel coupled with the comfort and protection of modern construction methods. It’s the most technically advanced skateboard shoe that Vans has ever made.
“The Vans AVE Pro is the culmination of upper features that have worked for Anthony on previous shoes with a new sole that shows off everything inside and keeps the flexibility intact with Vans’ durable waffle tread.” Neal Shoemaker, Director of Footwear Design
The collection is completed with a range of apparel and accessories. The Drill Chore Coat makes use of blue-collar stylings and features ripstop fabric, a twill lining, DWR finish and a hidden hood. The V96 Standard/AVE jeans are a classic staple, they come in a relaxed fit with heavyweight 14.75oz rigid denim with a vintage rinse wash. A Versa hoodie is included with its water-repellant Storm Cotton finish, there’s a hat and both a short and long sleeve t-shirt, all adorned with AVE’s custom Off the Wall graphic.
If it’s good enough for AVE, it’s good enough for us!
