Vans presents, The Lizzie, their first signature skateboarding shoe designed by a woman in 20 years, seeking to provide for a wider range of skateboarders whose needs are not being met.

“I really enjoyed the process of creating a shoe from the ground up,” Lizzie says. “I felt compelled to make a shoe that is simple, functional, feels good on your feet and has a bit of soul, and feel proud of what we were able to accomplish.”

In the development of this shoe, Lizzie worked with the Vans' Innovation and Product Development departments creating a fit last which was molded from 3D scans of her feet. Leading to a shoe with a slimmer fit tailored to her foot shape, a leaner outsole for closer connection to the board and improved flexibility, and a new lower profile footbed.

The Lizzie silhouette boasts a new vulcanized construction with lower profile sidewall foxing tape, an exposed radiused outsole and flex grooves to give a stable, broken-in feel. The fit makes use of EcoCush cushioning, this is designed to increase boardfeel for a wider range of skateboarders. Durability is provided by the new 3D Embossed DURACAP toe and Sidestripe, providing greater resilience in high-wear areas, whilst an all-new micro-waffle tread and Sick-Stick rubber ensure maximum grip.

The shoe has been given Vans VR3 Checkerboard Globe designation, this means that is adheres to strict footwear material guidelines for all the major components, and is engineered to have a reduced carbon footprint when compared to Vans' canvas models. Under this designation, The Lizzie will always be made in part with organic cotton, natural rubber and biobased foam. The debut model uses suede across the entire shoe, which is sourced from the Leather Working Group tanneries that are rated gold or silver for their environmental responsibility.

“I feel very connected to nature, and I’m stoked that my shoe could bring me even closer to it. I knew from the very beginning that I wanted to include sustainable materials and practices as much as possible throughout the entire process. It means a lot to me that Vans’ design team went the extra mile to make this happen,” Lizzie added.

The model is finished with subtle details, Lizzie's signature initials are found on the exterior tongue label, as well as her name on the underside of the heel flaps. Color pops of hand drawn citrus and botanical illustrations populate the interior lining, showcasing Lizzie's love of plants.

Supporting the release is the Vans x Lizzie Collection, a range of apparel and accessories including workwear staples like the Lizzie Armanto vest and Armanto skate chinos, alongside a knit tank and short sleeve tee, a bucket hat, crew socks and a waist pack. These replicate the citrus and botanical graphics found in the shoe's interior lining.

The Lizzie and Vans x Lizzie Armanto Collection will be available on Parade beginning March 10, 2022.
