The 19th of February 2020 sees the inaugural Skate Shop Day. Skate Shop Day was started as a day to celebrate the people that make up the world of the skate shop - whether it’s the owners, staff, customers or the skateboarders. Skate Shop Day is an opportunity for our community show its respect for the unique culture of skate shops and the important role that they play within the skateboarding.
“You should care because a world without skate shops is not an option.”
Whilst Go Skateboarding Day is meant to get skateboarders out skating, Skate Shop Day is intended to get skateboarders into skate shops. February is, typically, one of the hardest months for independent shops - those outside places like California battle snowy, wet, horrible weather. Skate Shop Day is a reason to head down to your local store in the whatever the weather and show your support.
At Parade we’re privileged to work with many excellent skate shops across the U.K and US. Each one is a pillar of their local community - hosting events, giving advice and providing a physical space to hang out. We strongly urge you to get out to your local store today, if you’re lucky enough to have one, and show your respect for all the work they do.
“You should care about skate shops because skate shops care about you.”
Skate Shop Day already have big plans for 2021 and will be working on a number of special projects with the likes of Deluxe (distributors of Krooked, Real and Spitfire). For now, let’s make sure the first Skate Shop Day is a special one.
