We’re incredibly stoked to be able to welcome Boston's Orchard Skateshop to our store community, one that allows you to shop the best skate shops and brands all in one spot.

Orchard’s been built up by many passionate and hard-working people over the years including Broderick ‘Bro’ Gumpright, Jon Devoe, Matt Bagley, Ian Coughlan and Armin Bachman plus a host of others. Armin is currently the shop's custodian, carrying on the good work the shop has been known for since its doors opened back in 2006.

Skateboard product aside, one of the best aspects of Orchard is its involvement with the local community, whether that be working with the city to ensure there’s good skateparks or organising and hosting events for the local skateboarders.

An example of this is the recent work they did in creating an indoor skatepark at the POP Allston space by Commercial Ave. Armin and others were able to secure two floors of skatepark in the three-story space, and Armin himself was there to teach skateboard lessons. Speaking to the Metro he said, “This is a great time for people to come out and try skating if they are new to it, or brush up if they already have some skills. We want skateboarding in Boston to be accessible for people of all walks of life.”

The shop itself houses an indoor bowl, an upstairs art gallery and a vintage relic shop out the back. The Birdnest bowl, built with the help of Converse, is free to use and is open to all whenever the shop is open. Providing the perfect spot for indoor sessions during the wet and cold winter months and is great entertainment for lurkers.

The gallery, fittingly known as the Extension Gallery, plays host to all manner of exhibitions from both new and established artists from Boston and beyond. One of the gallery’s core aims is to support the Boston skate scene. A portion of the money raised from art sales is reinvested into the cities skate scene, whether this is to repair skate spots, help fund DIY projects or to donate to skatepark build funds. It’s all part of the inclusive ethos that Orchard has.

These events are part of a strong desire that Orchard has to include the people of Boston in what they do. And why wouldn’t they? Shops are, of course, a crucial part of the local skate scene and a pillar of the community, but without reaching out and involving the locals there would be little point in any of it.

Alongside being active in the community, the Orchard shop team is one of the more active shop teams out there, recently releasing a Barcelona tour video with Free. Back in 2014, their 45-minute full-length video Stone Soup came out, it got posted up on the Thrasher site if you need any verification of its quality. Even though Orchard keeps him busy, Armin still managed to film the majority of the video and even had a part too. These shop owners are hands-on in everything they do!

The shop supports multiple generations of Boston rippers from established guys like Kevin Coakley to up and comers such as Ben Tenner, both of whom you can catch in that Free clip we mentioned. The city has produced many incredible skateboarders over the years and the shop is heavily involved in helping support the next generation carry the torch forward.
