The Vans Berle Pro is the latest signature shoe to be released by Vans and is Elijah Berle's first signature shoe.

Berle has been around for a long time in skateboarding, despite only being 24 years old. He was born and new up in Santa Monica, California - right in the epicentre of West Coast American skateboarding.

At the tender age of 15 Berle joined Foundation skateboards, the same year he announced himself to the wider skateboarding world by winning the famous Tampa AM competition. Following in the footsteps of the likes of Donny Barley and Kevin ‘Spanky’ Long.

From Foundation Berle moved over to the legendary Chocolate Skateboards camp, he had a banging section in the 2012 release ‘Pretty Sweet’, before turning pro along with his fellow Trunk Boyz in 2013.

In late 2017, after months of internet rumours, it was confirmed that Berle was to leave Chocolate Skateboards. A short time later, in an interview with Chromeball, Anthony Van Engelen confirmed Berle was to join Fucking Awesome, where he remains to this day.

Berle’s relationship with Vans runs deep, after a short stint with Osiris he joined Vans back in 2010 and has gone on to feature heavily in Vans’ video output since. His part in the 2015 full-length ‘Propeller’ is always worth a repeat viewing, as well as his powerful contribution to the 2018 web release ‘Spinning Away’.

All this considered, it’s pretty evident Elijah has been deserving of a pro shoe for a while now. So let’s take a look at the Vans Berle Pro signature model in detail.

The Vans Berle Pro was designed with three main factors considered - support, grip and board feel. With this shoe, Vans are debuting a new feature which they’ve termed WaffleControl technology. Put simply, Vans have attempted to develop the perfect amount of depth within their classic waffle sole. This is in order to optimise the shoes’ grip, something Vans historically pride themselves on providing. Built-in contoured footbeds give a cup-sole like support and are intended to enhance comfort and cushioning.

Further to this, the Berle Pro makes use of Vans’ Duracap reinforced uppers, a new medial gum rubber can be found on both the heel and toe areas of the shoe in order to extend its durability. The Vans’ LuxLiner also features to ensure a snug, comfortable fit.

The shoe is initially available in three colourways - Rumba red, black and white, and an STV navy.

As this shoe comes with the Elijah Berle seal of approval and is built to withstand the abuse his brand of ATV skating puts shoes though, we’re confident that this will be a great skate shoe.
