The Vans Berle Pro is the debut signature model for Vans Pro Team rider, Elijah Berle. The shoe was designed under the motto ‘less is more’ when it comes to pushing the boundaries of skateboarding shoe technology. Vans’ new WaffleControl technology is designed to reduce the number of individual parts separating the foot from the skateboard, the idea being that this gives you better board control, responsiveness, and in-built cushioning.
The Vans Berle Pro is comprised of canvas and suede uppers, it also makes use of Vans DURACAP rubber reinforcement which is found in high wear areas of the shoe in order to enhance the shoe’s durability. Vans’ LuxLiner ‘comfort enhanced’ liners, and the original Vans waffle rubber outsoles offer both grip and support.
It’s a shoe that is built to withstand the pressures put upon skate footwear by ATV beasts such as Elijah. Berle was literally born into skateboarding, coming from a Santa Monica family of surfers and skaters. He rose to wider notoriety after winning the 2010 Tampa AM competition, the same year that he joined Foundation Skateboards. He left Foundation to ride for Chocolate Skateboards, turning pro in 2012 after the release of 'Pretty Sweet'. Five years later Berle parted way with Chocolate Skateboards, and to little surprise given the amount of online rumour and speculation, joined Jason Dill and Anthony van Engelen over at the Fucking Awesome camp.
His relationship with Vans has been a lengthy one, he had a brief spell on Osiris shoes, before swapping them for the waffle sole in 2010. His output for Vans has been consistently excellent, check out his part in 'Propeller' for evidence of this, or indeed any of their recent online releases such as 'Spinning Away'.
It's safe to say then that Berle has paid his dues and is well deserving of this professional model. Equally, this shoe having Berle’s seal of approval should tell you all you need to know about its quality.
