Blind Skateboards was instrumental in shaping modern skateboarding. Blind started in 1989 by Steve Rocco and Mark Gonzales (who left his previous sponsor Vision) and the brand was provocative from the start - the name itself was a big f**k you to Vision. Joining the Gonz was Jason Lee, Rudy Johnson, Guy Mariano and Jordan Richter. Danny Way briefly joined the team but Blind only released one pro deck.
Then came the video.
Spike Jonze produced the seminal Blind video in 1991. Simply titled 'Video Days', it cemented the team as one of the best and most progressive. To this day, Video Days is still highly regarded. The team grew to include legends such as Tim Gavin, Henry Sanchez, Brian Lotti and Jeron Wilson. Almost as fanous as Video Days were Blind jeans, which became a global phenomenon and are still admired today with brands such as Polar Skate Co. creating homepage to the 90s era with their Big Boy pants.
Blind Skateboards continued with Ronnie Creager but the crew started to fall apart once a large chunk of the team left to start Girl Skateboards (around 1993). Amazingly, the brand re-invented itself and went on to create Flame Boy, Wet Willy and The Devil Ma with astounding commercial success. Blind is still around today with a strong team of new skaters in Cody McEntire, Kevin Romar, T.J. Rogers, Micky Papa and contest destroyer Yuto Horigome.
