“We all had imported tuned-up cars, like ridiculous Honda ’97 Civic DX's with spoilers,” says Metropolitan founders Keith Hufnagel and Hanni El Khatib. “We both had a ’97 Integra with blacked-out lenses and stuff. That’s the vibe and a treasure chest of design inspiration. All of this sparked from these Japanese import illegal drift racing videos, pre Fast & Furious in the mid ‘90s. They feel underground and illegal, which they were.”
Harking back to the lights and colours of street racing, the collection includes an adidas ZX8000 shoe in a black colourway with reflective details. The shoe makes use of Torsion Bar technology, giving it extra support and adaptability. It features a mixed material upper comprised of Honey Buck leather and reflective toe overlays. The silhouette is completed by ripstop technology, a rubberised branded tongue and a stylish transparent outsole.
A five piece apparel collection supports the headline silhouette. It's an all-weather collection featuring a seam-sealed jacket and pants which combine racing inspired design and outdoor tech. The jacket features a fully packable hood and a three layer fully taped body which is enhanced by Climaproof treatment. The Polar Tracksuit features reflective detailing for high-visibility, whilst the long sleeve tee comes complete with custom Metropolitan graphics and chrome inspired logos.
The adidas Skateboard and Metropolitan collection will release on Parade on March 21st.
